UseIT@Westgate offer IT Courses delivered by our experienced Tutor (courses may be free dependent upon your circumstances, however an attendance contract* will need to be signed prior to attending a free course). Please call in, telephone or send us an for advice and guidance on any of our courses.
Fully flexible start and end dates, you study at your own pace! COURSE CONTENTThe course will consist of a choice of 3 or 5 units from: · Using a computer (core unit – mandatory) · Spreadsheets (using Excel XP) · Databases (using Access XP) · Word processing (using Word XP) · Website creation (using Word XP) Email (using web based email provider) · Presentations (using Powerpoint XP) You will learn to use each software package to the required standard using training guides. Your tutor will help you with any difficulties you may have and provide you with practice assignments for each unit. These will be in the form of the New CLAIT practice assignments which consist of data and questions. ASSESSMENTEach unit is assessed through a Live Assignment (exam). When you have completed the four practice assignments for each unit, you will be given a live assignment to attempt. You will be allowed up 2 resit attempts (at different assignments) if your first attempt is not up to standard, with a time limit of 2 hours per attempt. Your assignment will be checked by your tutor and submitted to OCR for certification at the end of the course. During the assessment you are allowed to use your training guide and your own notes. No help will be given to you from your tutor unless there is an equipment failure. During the assessment, you are required to work on your own and you are not allowed to communicate with other students until the assessment print-outs have been handed in along with your live assignment paper. Each assignment will be graded as Pass or Fail. If you pass five assignments (including the core unit) you will receive a Level 1 Certificate for IT Users (New CLAIT). If you should fail one or more units you will be given a Profile Certificate showing the units which you have successfully completed.
New CLAIT Certificate New CLAIT Diploma Candidates will learn to use each software package to the required standard by working through the training booklets at their own pace. Your tutor will help you with any difficulties you may have and will provide you with numerous practice assignments for each unit, once you have completed the training booklet, in preparation for the assessments.
ASSESSMENTEach unit is assessed through a Live Assignment (exam). When you have completed the practice assignments for each unit, you will be given the option of attempting the live assignment. You will be allowed a resit attempt (at a different assignment) if your first attempt is not up to standard, with a time limit of 2.5 hours per attempt. Your finished exam will be checked by your tutor and submitted to OCR for moderation & certification at the end of the course. Each assignment will be graded as Pass or Fail. If you pass 3 assignments (including the core unit) you will receive a Level 1 Certificate for IT Users (New CLAIT), or for 5 units you will receive the Diploma.
